On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of shoplifting and security awareness. You will learn about security in retail, what it means and where it applies. You will explore why retail security is important and the types of security risks.
We will cover shoplifting in retail and look at statistics, you will learn about the methods used and the most shoplifted items per store type. You will also consider the problem of internal theft and the scale of the shoplifting problem across retail in the UK.
You will learn about how to prevent shop lifting and keeping the retail environment safe and explore some examples of how retailers can prevent shoplifting.
We will cover the actions to take and how to approach a suspected shoplifter and you will learn about how to identify warning signs of conflict how to manage conflict and cover witness statements.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 - Introduction to shoplifting and security - In the first unit we will cover security in retail, what it means and where it applies. You will cover some definitions and explore why retail security is important and the types of security risks. You will learn about retail security policies and procedures and who has what responsibilities for security in retail.
- Unit 2 - All about shoplifting - In the second unit we will consider the statistics that highlight the problem of shoplifting. You will look at who is stealing, some of the methods that may be used and the most shoplifted items per store.
- Unit 3 - Prevention and keeping the retail environment safe - In this unit you will learn about keeping the retail environment safe, you will explore some examples of how retailers can prevent shop lifting and consider the benefits of security guards.
- Unit 4 - Dealing with offenders - In the final unit we will cover how to approach a suspected shoplifter and the actions to take. You will also consider how to manage conflict and learn about witness statements.

Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
